While most people envision the American dream as a spacious house with a huge backyard and a white picket fence, this isn’t always the case since being tied to a home can be an inconvenience especially if you’re a celebrity and constantly on the road. #15 – Cam Newton ($1.6 Million)
Touchdown! One of the biggest stars in the NFL today, Cam Newton had an incredible year in 2011 when he was awarded the Heisman Trophy, won the national championship with the Auburn Tigers and was drafted as the first overall pick in the NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers. Joining the Panthers as the 2011 Rookie of the Year, Newton has continued impress as a three-time Pro-Bowler with record breaking stats in only five seasons in addition to leading the Panthers to their second Super Bowl appearance in franchise history.
Obviously on an incredible roll in North Carolina, Newton decided to settle down in the beautiful town of Charlotte and spent $1.6 million on a condo uptown. Located on the upper floors of Charlotte’s Trust Building and just down the hall from former basketball legend Michael Jordan’s part-time condo, Newton’s condo features 3,200 square feet of living space with high security and gorgeous views of the city from the rooftop pool. So where did he get the cash? Newton bought the condo shortly after signing a four-year extension with the Panthers that totaled an impressive $22 million!
#14 – Kris Jenner ($1.65 Million)
The mother of all mothers and the matriarch of the most famous family in the United States, Kris Jenner is the former wife of Bruce (now Caitlyn) Jenner and mother to Kourtney, Kim, Khloe, Robert, Kendall and Kylie. Rising to fame alongside her family with the 2007 debut of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Jenner has taken center stage over the last eight years thanks to her marriage to Bruce (and his sex change operations) in addition to her role in managing her children’s careers as well as her growing addiction to plastic surgery.
With her divorce from Bruce finalized in March 2015, Jenner decided a fresh start was in store and spent $1.65 million on a condo in Los Angeles’ prestigious Westwood neighborhood. Featuring limestone floors and a modern kitchen equipped with custom cabinets and a steam oven, the 2,500-square foot condo also offers marble flooring in the bathrooms as well as a large den with inset lighting and custom built-in shelving. Having plenty of room to snuggle up with boyfriend Corey Gamble, Jenner’s master bedroom features a private spa and steam shower that are perfect for romance and relaxation.
#13 – Anthony Bourdain ($3.35 Million)
What’s cooking? Easily one of the most famous chefs in the United States, New York’s Anthony Bourdain launched his career on the Food Network in 2002 with A Cook’s Tour. After wrapping up the 35th episode, Bourdain joined the Travel Channel as the host of Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations from 2005 to 2012 and The Layover from 2011 to 2013. Since then, the 59-year-old chef has taken his talents to CNN where he hosts the Emmy Award-winning Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown in which he travels the world exploring cultures and cuisine.
Bourdain purchased the first of many New York City condos on our list in 2014 when he dropped $3.35 million on his East 94th Street condo located on the Upper East Side. Previously living with his wife, Ottavio Busia, on 87th Street and looking to upgrade, Bourdain did exactly that with this sprawling 2,250-square foot condo featuring three bedrooms and three baths. And, while no photos of the kitchen have been released, we can only imagine its dozens of high-tech appliances and gadgets that are fit for New York’s favorite celebrity chef.
#12 – Mario Chalmers ($4 Million)
It’s nothing but net! Perhaps not the best or most popular player in the NBA, Mario Chalmers has spent the last eight years achieving moderate success on the hardwoods as a point guard and shooting guard with the Miami Heat and the Memphis Grizzlies. Drafted from the University of Kansas in 2008 by the Minnesota Timberwolves and then traded to the Heat where he won two NBA championships, Chalmers left the team in 2015 and joined the Grizzlies where an injury in his first season sent him to the bench.
Now only 30 years old with a net worth of $14 million and an annual salary of $4 million, Chalmers spared no expense when it came to his Miami home when he purchased a two-story condo from famed rapper Drake. Located on the 49th floor of the Marquis building, Drake purchased the condo for his “I’m On One” music video but hardly ever used it afterward. Chalmers purchased the ocean-view property in 2012 for $2.4 million and listed it two years later for $4 million. After staying on the market for over a year without any offers, Chalmers now uses it as a vacation home.
#11 – Michael C. Hall ($4.28 Million)
Getting his start on the Broadway stage in shows like Cabaret and Chicago, North Carolina native Michael C. Hall proved to be the perfect fit for the role of David Fisher in HBO’s Six Feet Under. Playing the closeted funeral director from 2001 to 2005, Hall took on the biggest role of his career in 2006 when he starred as Dexter Morgan in the hit Showtime series Dexter. Earning a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Award for his performance, Hall wrapped up the series in 2013 as one of Hollywood’s hottest leading men.
Using his incredible success and wealth from the series to finally settle down in New York City, Hall shelled out $4.28 million in March 2016 for a 1,586-square foot condo in The Big Apple. Hall actually paid $85,000 over the listed price for the two-bedroom and two-bathroom condo but knew his investment was well worth it with its u-shaped kitchen and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the city. However, buyer’s remorse obviously settled in as Hall decided to rent the condo for $15,000 a month rather than live in it himself, which leaves us to wonder—would you want Dexter Morgan as your landlord?
#10 – Yolanda Foster ($4.59 Million)
On the heels of Kris Jenner as the second reality star on our list is model, interior designer and reality television star Yolanda Foster. Born in the Netherlands and working as a model for Eileen Ford for 15 years, Foster moved to Los Angeles in 1994 and settled down with real estate developer Mohamed Hadid. Divorcing Hadid in 2000 and left to raise their three children, she married musician David Foster in 2011 and joined the cast of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills in 2013 only to announce her impending divorce from David two years later.
Weeks after separating from David, the 52-year-old Foster took her $45 million net worth and helped herself to a swanky condo in Los Angeles with a price tag of $4.59 million. Though a far cry from her impressive $27 million mansion with David, Foster’s new condo is located near the top of the 24-story Carlyle Residences and sprawls across 4,000 square feet. Featuring majestic ceilings, hardwood floors, granite countertops, a private elevator and stainless steel appliances, Foster’s condo is one of the most luxurious in the city.
#9 – Chris Martin & Gwyneth Paltrow ($5.1 Million)
Undeniably one of the biggest power couples of the new millennium, the world was thrilled when Coldplay’s Chris Martin and Hollywood’s stunning and talented Gwyneth Paltrow tied the knot in 2003. Known for her award-winning performances in films like The Avengers, Iron Man, The Royal Tenenbuams and The Talented Mr. Ripley, it seemed like Paltrow finally found her true love with the Grammy-winning crooner until reality proved otherwise in 2014. After 11 years of marriage and two children, Martin and Paltrow called it quits and announced their separation.
With their divorce finalized in 2015, Martin and Paltrow sorted through their impressive real estate portfolio and faced tough decisions on what to keep, sell or share. Still in the midst of selling today, among their properties are two apartments in New York City worth a combined price of $17.6 million, which they listed in March 2016. Of the two units, the most expensive was purchased in March 2007 for $5.1 million and is currently listed as a 3,900 square-foot three-bedroom condo with a price tag of $14.25 million. How’s that for buying low and selling high?
#8 – Ashley Olsen ($7.3 Million)
“You got it, dude!” One half of the famed Olsen Twins, Ashley Olsen and her sister Mary Kate were only nine months old when they shared the role of Michelle Tanner on the television series Full House. Instantly becoming household names and known for catchphrases like “You’re in big trouble, mister!” the Olsen twins went on to release a series of videos for children as well as a line of products featuring everything from clothes and perfumes to magazines and posters that instantly made them millionaires.
Now heavily involved in the fashion industry as a designer alongside her sister, Ashley dropped $7.3 million in May 2016 when she purchased a condo on 37 East 12th Street in New York City. Taking up an entire floor of the newly completed building, the 3,000 square-foot condo is located in Greenwich Village and has the New York charm of a round-the-clock doorman and a 24-hour gym. Having lived with her sister for years in their West Village penthouse before selling for a $300,000 profit in 2010, the 29-year-old Ashley definitely has plenty of room to herself with her new home sweet home.
#7 – Jonah Hill ($9.16 Million)
Nearly a decade ago, Los Angeles native Jonah Hill became an overnight star when he was cast in the leading role in one of the biggest R-rated comedies to ever hit the box office, Superbad. Since then, the 32-year-old actor, comedian, writer and producer has starred in films like Knocked Up, 21 Jump Street, This is the End and The Wolf of Wall Street, which earned him an Academy Award nomination.
Recognized by Forbes as one of the highest paid actors in the industry, Hill took his millionaire status and upgraded his home after he sold his $3 million condo and dropped $9.16 million on a condo in New York City’s famed NoHo neighborhood. The largest of 20 condos in the building, Hill’s pad stretches across 3,330 square feet and offers four bedrooms and four and half bathrooms, 12-foot ceilings and oversized windows that offer outstanding views of the neighborhood. And, with Hill bringing in $16 million in 2015 alone, we have no doubt he can easily afford living in such a beautiful place!
#6 – Tina Fey ($9.5 Million)
First joining Saturday Night Live as a writer in the late 1990s before taking the anchor seat in the “Weekend Update” segment, Tina Fey has seen incredible success over the last 20 years as an actress, comedian, producer and writer. Best known for her impression of Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin on SNL, Fey stepped out on her own in 2006 with her newly created series 30 Rock (2006-2013) and again in 2015 with Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. The beautiful and talented 46-year-old has also starred in films like Mean Girls, Baby Mama and Sisters.
Synonymous with New York City, it makes perfect sense that the Pennsylvania native dropped $9.5 million for a condo on the Upper West Side. Located in Manhattan and coincidentally only a floor above the condo where she and her husband Jeff Richmond already live, Fey jumped at the chance to move upstairs into the 10-room condo. Offering a better view of the city as well as more modern architecture and design, there are rumors that Fey plans on making a duplex out of her new purchase, which might explain why she was willing to pay far more than the $7.5 million asking price.
#5 – Leonardo DiCaprio ($10 Million)
“…and the Oscar goes to…” Finally winning his first Oscar for Best Actor for his performance in The Revenant, Leonardo DiCaprio has spent the last 20 years vying for one of the film industry’s most prestigious awards. Making his film debut in 1993 and earning critical acclaim for What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, DiCaprio earned international fame when James Cameron cast him as Jack Dawson in Titanic. Quickly becoming one of Hollywood’s sexiest leading men, DiCaprio has gone on to star in hit films like The Aviator, The Departed and The Wolf of Wall Street.
Leading the top five most expensive condos on our list with his $10 million loft in Greenwich Village in the 66 East 11th Street building, the 41-year-old DiCaprio has bounced in and out of condos for years before finally settling down (or so we thought). Known as a strict environmentalist, DiCaprio didn’t think twice about spending a fortune on this green and eco-friendly loft in the heart of New York City. However, his nomadic ways haven’t changed and, despite staying here full-time for almost a year, the Hollywood heartthrob began renting the loft out in 2015 with a monthly price tag of $25,000! Sheesh!
#4 – Katie Couric ($12.17 Million)
Launching her career as a journalist in 1979, Katie Couric has spent the last 37 years building her reputation as one of the most recognizable and trusted news anchors and reporters in the industry. Now 59 years old, Couric has anchored for all three major networks (NBC, CBS and ABC) in addition to hosting countless newscasts as well as her own syndicated talk show titled Katie from 2012 to 2014. Today, fans can find their favorite Virginia native working as Yahoo!’s Global News Anchor.
Earning an upwards of $10 million each year, Couric is yet another celebrity on our list who joined the real estate buying boom in March 2016 when she and her husband John Molner spent $12.17 million on a 4,000 square-foot condo in New York City. Located on the Upper East Side in a 16-story building with 14 other condos, Couric’s five-bedroom and five-bathroom condo takes up the entire 10th floor and features a spacious living room, dining room and library that allow “America’s Sweetheart” plenty of room to easily entertain her dozens of high profile friends and celebrity guests.
#3 – Mary Kate Olsen ($13.5 Million)
Now taking a look at the other half of the Olsen Twins, Mary Kate and her sister earned millions in the early career as child stars but they have continuously built their incredible wealth thanks to their sense of style. First starting a clothing line in Walmart for young girls like themselves, Mary Kate and Ashley have taken their sophisticated style to bigger venues as the former faces of Badgley Mischka as well as the launch of their own fashion lines including The Row, Elizabeth and James, Olsenboye and StyleMint.
After selling her West Village penthouse with Ashley in 2010 and with her sister buying her own pad in New York City, Mary Kate and her husband, Olivier Sarkozy, were more than thrilled to spend $13.5 million on a Midtown apartment owned by painter David Deutsch. With the apartment stretching across an impressive 4,200 square feet and offering a private garden, ballroom, rooftop pool, art studio and a stunning hall of mirrors, the 29-year-old fashion designer and former child star is certainly living the high life with the 46-year-old French banker.
#2 – Jennifer Lawrence ($14.4 Million)
One of the most talked about stars in Hollywood today, Jennifer Lawrence is definitely not afraid to tell it like it is. First spotted by a talent scout at the age of 14 and starring on The Bill Engvall Show from 2007 to 2009, Lawrence made her breakthrough in the 2010 independent film Winter’s Bone. Today, the four-time Oscar nominee and 2013 Best Actress winner for Silver Linings Playbook has become the highest grossing action heroine of all time thanks to her performance in the X-Men and Hunger Games franchises.
Despite the paparazzi hounding Lawrence at every turn for her outspoken feminism, the 25-year-old star has very little to worry about when it comes to security in her newest home located on Greenwich Street in New York City’s Tribeca neighborhood. Originally built in the 1880s and newly renovated by an anonymous celebrity who spent over $50 million on marble finishes and eight-inch parquet floors, Lawrence is currently in negotiations to close on the four-bedroom condo that stretches over 4,200 square feet. As one of the highest paid actresses in the world and the youngest to earn four Oscar nominations, we can’t help but think this beautiful Hollywood star deserves every square inch of happiness!
#1 – Taylor Swift ($20 Million)
“We are never ever ever getting back together…” Ending our list with the most popular artist in music today, 26-year-old Taylor Swift has been a chart-topping machine since the age of 14. Leaving her hometown of Reading, Pennsylvania for Nashville, Tennessee, Swift started her career as a country singer with hits like “Our Song” and “Tim McGraw” before making her way to the pop music scene with the four-time Grammy Award-winning album Fearless featuring hits like “Love Story” and “You Belong with Me.” Now firmly established in the industry, Swift continues to produce critically acclaimed mega albums like Speak Now, Red and 1989.
After becoming one of the biggest artists in music with a $240 million net worth, Swift had her eyes set on a home in New York City and saw her dreams come true when she purchased Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson’s condo in Tribeca for just under $20 million. What a deal! Taking up the entire sixth floor of the building, Swift’s condo is filled with beautiful hardwoods, paneling and exposed ceiling beams in addition to 24-hour security from a former NYPD officer. So, just how big is the pop princess’s pad? It’s the largest on our list at nearly 10,000 square feet!
